Unboxing Day
My wife and kids celebrate St. Nicholas Day on December 6th and watching my 4-year-old son open up the toys left for him by the holy-man-turned-jolly-icon is a whole lot of fun. And hey, it's even worth making a video for posterity sake. But apparently opening boxes isn't just for 4-year-old boys and Transformers. Grownups have starting making videos of themselves "unboxing" high tech gadgets like game systems and posting the videos online. There are even sites like unboxing.com for unboxers to gather. I'm not a gadget guy, so I have trouble appreciating the fascination of unboxing. But as a marketer, I love the concept of making an event out of what is normally considered a pretty mundane part of buyer-seller relationship.
